Tips for caring for your instrument: THe alto saxophone
Taking care of your instrument will ensure that it will perform and be reliable for a long time. Here are some tips on taking care of your saxophone:
1) Use cork grease as little as possible. When you do apply cork grease, you will need to rub it into the cork.
2) When properly used, cork grease should allow you to assemble your saxophone without using excessive foce.
3) Do not leave the reed attached tothe mouthpiece. This will shorten the life of the reed and casue it to colelct germs.
4) Wipe off your fingerprints from the keys after every use. Use a clean, non-treated cotton cloth. If you do choose use a treated polishing cloth, be sure that it is for the proper finish. Using the wrong treated cloth could cause scratched.
5) Clean out the moisture from your instrument with an absorbant cotton drop swab after every use by inserting it in the small end first. Removing the moisture from your saxophone before putting it away each time will prolong the life of the pads.
6) Please do not leave your neck strap attached to you instrument while in the case.
7) Always store your instrument in the case with the lid closed when not in use. This will prevent any excess tarnishing and lower the risk of damange.
